Ryan Reynolds Has Hilarious Answer for Baby’s Name After Taylor Quip

You can always count on Ryan Reynolds to keep the jokes coming — especially when it comes to his own family.

More than a year after he and his famous wife, Blake Lively, welcomed their fourth child together, the star-studded couple have managed to keep all details about their youngest one out of the spotlight. Then, during a recent appearance on Today, the actor joked that he and Lively were waiting on pal Taylor Swift to tell them the name of their fourth baby after co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb asked if the child got a name-drop on the singer’s newest album, The Tortured Poets Department.

In an interview with him at the premiere of If on Monday night, ET’s Rachel Smith followed up with Reynolds about the youngster’s moniker, asking what they’re calling them while they wait for Swift to pick an official name.

“Oh, all the letters are silent,” he quipped. “It just sort of sounds like a light breeze blowing through at this point, which is really hard if you get mad at the child for something…Yeah, it doesn’t work.”

Needless to say, Reynolds is cleverly keeping the tot’s name close to the chest.

However, as Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb pointed out earlier that day, Swift has worked their older three daughters’ names — James, Inez, and Betty — into lyrics for her 2020 folklore song, “Betty.”

“We always wait for Taylor to tell us what the child’s name will be,” Reynolds joked on Today. “We’re still waiting, so, Taylor, let’s maybe start, you know.”

Added Reynolds, “She’s a prolific writer. I mean, what are we doing here? And lazy’s not a word I’d attach to Taylor.”

While he had the co-anchors in stitches, other parents will most likely get a laugh out of perhaps his best joke. “When we had our fourth, I was so happy,” he said, “because I always wanted to make sure that we always had someone on hand to give me strep throat.”

Luckily, Reynolds and Lively’s pint-sized squad get to see and hear their mom and dad in their upcoming movie, in which Reynolds’ character teams up with his kid neighbor to help pair forgotten imaginary friends with their former children. Lively voices an imaginary friend called Octopus.

“My kids are so excited,” he told ET, “because they’re gonna see mom, they’re gonna hear mom in this, and they’re gonna see dad in this.”

If hits theaters on May 17.
