Donald Trump comes right up to the barriers at Trump Tower to wave to all the crowds

According to Newsweek, Todd Landman, a professor of political science at the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Nottingham in the U.K., also predicts that a “backlash” that “involves violence” may arise on the back of the verdict.

“The verdict was quite a lightning bolt last night,” he said. “For many, it was a vindication and a demonstration of accountability. For others, it was an example of political persecution spearheaded by the Democrats.”

Some Trump supporters have also shown a propensity to violence in the past, as many stormed the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021, to protest the 2020 presidential election results.

Donald Trump Called The Guilty Verdict A ‘Disgrace’

Trump Presents the Medal of Freedom to Lou Holtz

The outrage from MAGA comes after the billionaire politician was found guilty on 34 count charges for falsifying business records in an attempt to cover up a $130k payment he made to Stormy Daniels for her to remain silent over their one-night stand.

He denies the accusations and has severally called the case a “witch hunt” that’s politically motivated. The verdict meant that Trump became the first U.S. president or former president to be convicted of felony crimes.

“This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt,” Trump told reporters outside the courtroom after the verdict.

Although his legal team has already announced their intention to appeal the verdict “as soon as we can,” Trump will be sentenced on July 11 at 10 a.m.

What’s Next For The Convicted Ex-President?

Donald Trump at CPAC 2024

Trump’s guilty verdict has seemingly caused confusion as to the state of his Republican candidacy for the November elections, with many questioning whether he’d have to serve a jail term.

According to AP News, the charges for which Trump was found guilty are a class E felony in New York, which is the lowest tier of felony in the state. It is punishable by up to four years in jail for each count, although the charges are expected to run concurrently and not consecutively.

Although whether or not Trump will go to prison is up to Judge Juan Merchan, who presides over the case, it’s unlikely Merchan will give the ex-president jail time, especially due to his age and the fact that he is considered a first-time offender.

Donald Trump Was ‘Bothered’ By Melania And Ivanka’s Absence

Trump was reportedly perturbed by the lack of support he got from two leading women in his life in the build-up to the verdict.

His wife, Melania, and daughter, Ivanka, were noticeably absent from the New York courtroom all through the days he pled his case. However, three of his other children, Donald Jr., Eric, and Tiffany, attended to show support for him, much to his liking.

In a recent interview with CNN, Trump’s former press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, said he was “absolutely” bothered by Melania and Ivanka’s lack of support.

“Absolutely, I know it bothers him. That kind of thing would bother him. If Mrs. Trump wasn’t at some event and it was really noted, he would definitely bring it up with her,” Grisham said. “So I’m sure in this context, it’s definitely really bothering him.”

“I think that Melania and Ivanka are both thinking of their own optics,” she went on, adding that the pair “haven’t been here the whole time” and that if Melania had shown up when the verdict was announced, she’d have been “absolutely floored.”
