John Wick Spinoff Starring Donnie Yen’s Caine Is Happening, Will Pay Off That Credits Scene – SlashFilm

Venturing into spoiler territory (you’ve been warned), the credits scene at the end of “John Wick: Chapter 4” is the key to this new spin-off. For those who may need a refresher, it sees Caine looking happy, flowers in hand, as Akira (Rina Sawayama) makes a beeline for him with a knife. She is seemingly seeking revenge as Yen’s Caine killed her father Shimazu (Hiroyuki Sanada) earlier in the film. Caine understood there would be consequences, telling Akira, “I’ll be waiting for you” after it happened. Let them fight, as it were.

For Lionsgate, it’s a movie that makes sense. “John Wick” is a $1 billion franchise now, with each entry more successful than the last. Franchises with such global popularity are hard to come by and if there are other stories to be told, telling them makes good business sense, it seems. Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, had this to say about it:

“From the moment Donnie Yen appeared on screen in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4,’ he captivated audiences and created an authentic, emotional connection that left an indelible mark and had fans asking for more. The ‘John Wick’ universe that Chad, Basil, Erica, and Keanu have built offers a tapestry of fascinating characters brought to life by the most extraordinary performers, and we’re excited to have one of the world’s biggest superstars on board to continue this journey.”

“Ballerina” is set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025.
